The Show

Fredrika Fire Angel, the bringer of fire is the UK’s first solar-powered pyrotechnic sculpture show, constructed from recycled materials and reclaimed metal and operated using Calor Futuria liquid gas (aka BioLPG) where available. The show is choreographed to music, with a combination of manual and automatic controls operating 23 individual flame effects. During the show Fredrika is accompanied by an entourage of fire sculptures – the Charming Heads of the Apocalypse – whilst Iain and his assistants perform alongside with a range of custom-made pyrotechnic equipment including flame-throwing airhorns, guaranteed to attract attention and energise any crowd. Iain continues to experiment and develop the show every year.

The Artist

Welder-turned-sculptor Iain Coiley progressed from professional industrial welding to joining the Mutoid Waste Company as a structural welder, where he collaborated with multiple artists for 20 years. He has worked on a wide variety of well-known art installations and sculptural vehicles, including the Lost Tea Party at Burning Man in Nevada and a 60 foot hight kinetic pyrotechnic Phoenix at the top of the Pyramid Stage during the Rolling Stones performance at Glastonbury Festival. Whilst working with the Mutoids, Iain began to create his own sculptures and kinetic artworks. He exhibited his first solo work in 2008, and since then, his work has featured regularly in group and solo exhibitions throughout the UK.

A few words from our clients

Iain’s sculptures are truly stunning and their eco-friendly fire makes them a perfect combination of ethical and awesome to watch. As a feature of Rockaway at the Steve Ignorant Band gig in April, they were not only beautiful, but also created a fantastic atmosphere!

I’ve followed Iain’s work for over 10 years and it was with great pleasure that I curated his installation into the Unfairground at the Glastonbury Festival 2019.

An incredible animated fire statue quickly took shape in the field, although impressive as a piece of art the true beauty of his work was revealed at show time when the sun went down and the music started. Slowly the statue awoke, gracefully moving with jets of fire in time with the music. With several shows a night Iain’s work pulled large crowds and worked beautifully for the weekend.
